Sodexo provides a full range of services that help improve inmate living conditions and facilitate their reintegration, while complying with prevailing laws in each host country.
Sodexo companies provide a wide range of custodial services to governments worldwide. The actual provision is dependent upon the legislation of the respective countries, but includes the construction, financing and management of prisons and detention and reintegration centers. All services ensuring that these establishments run smoothly, from maintenance to preparing inmates for release, are carried out by Sodexo's various subsidiaries in its partner countries.
Kalyx, Sodexo's corrections subsidiary in the United Kingdom, provides integrated management of Forest Bank, a 1,040 beds prison in Salford, Manchester, opened in 2000, of Bronzefield, a 450 bed women prison in Ashford, Middlesex, opened in June 2004 and of Peterborough, a mixed gender 840 bed prison opened in March 2005. A fourth one, Addiewell in Scotland will open in 2008. Kalyx provides full custodial services under a 25-year management contract. This includes:
- Safety and hygiene
Providing a safe, healthy environment for inmates and staff alike for creating a constructive climate that supports reintegration. - Medical care
Sodexo provides professional medical care that includes treatment for physical or mental ailments, drug addiction, alcoholism, aggression, sexual disorders and dyslexia. - Help in returning to society
Sodexo works alongside inmates to give them the means to find a job upon release. Our approach focuses on education, training and vocational activities, with the goal of helping to improve their skills and restore their confidence in the future.
With the help of its partners, Kalyx was also involved in creating a removal centre near Heathrow Airport, on behalf of the Immigration Service. In social affairs, Kalyx has won two National Probation Service contracts for the management of resettlement premises.

SIGES, the first Sodexo subsidiary to manage and provide services to a penitentiary administration, was created in 1990. It is operating in 6 establishments located in the north of the country : Bapaume and Longuenesse (Pas-de-Calais), Lille-Séquendin and Maubeuge (Nord), Saint-Mihiel (Meuse) and Liancourt (Oise). This includes hospitality services (food, laundry, cleaning, canteen), building and equipment maintenance, transport, vocational training and management of the industries.
The services provided include:

Quality of services and of daily life environment that comply with health, safety and nutritional standards, security equipment and building maintenance, transport, as well as laundry, shop and cleaning. To achieve these functions, the Sodexo specialists manage teams of inmates. - Help in returning to society
Integrated in the general resettlement process, Sodexo works alongside inmates to give them the means to find a job upon release. Our approach focuses on training and vocational activities, with the goal of helping to improve their skills and restore their confidence in the future. - SIGES also provides maintenance in 2 other prisons and the management of inmate workshops in a further 6.
SIGES has achieved ISO 9001 certification at all sites for total quality management for all services provided. Sogeres, another subsidiary of Sodexo, provides foodservices and manages laundry and shop in 6 facilities in the southern France.

AIMS, Sodexo's Australian subsidiary, designed and built Acacia Prison in Western Australia, near Perth, which opened in May 2001. For the Department of Justice in Victoria, AIMS provides Custodial Management services in the County Courts system and other facilities, as well as prisoner transportation throughout the state.

The BAS consortium, led by SIGES Chile, is responsible for design, construction and finance of 5 prisons and management of most day-to-day services. The Government is responsible for security, custody, sentence management and transportation.
The 20 year contracts are for maximum and medium security prisons with a total capacity of 7,250 beds. SIGES Chile will provide maintenance of buildings and equipment, food service, laundry, healthcare and opportunities for rehabilitation. This latter includes education, vocational training, industries, and recreational, cultural and sporting activities.

In Spain, Sodexo provides food services to inmates and staff in 7 correctional facilities in Catalonia.
In Italy, Sodexo provides food services for staff in 12 correctional facilities.
In the Netherlands, Sodexo has contracted with the Ministry of Justice to provide food services for inmates and staff in 29 correctional facilities, including one in Amsterdam.
Sodexo provides food services in 9 prisons.
